Integrated Nervous System Therapy

Neuro-Somatic Therapy is the UK's only integrated nervous system therapy that combines NESA neuromodulation with somatic psychological therapy within the same session - addressing both the neurological and psychological dimensions of nervous system dysregulation simultaneously.

You've tried talking therapy. It helped you understand yourself better, gave you real insights into your patterns. But the anxiety is still there. The exhaustion is still there. The pain is still there. Understanding the problem hasn't made it go away. This is one of the most common and most frustrating experiences in therapeutic work, and there's a reason for it.

The body remembers. Long after the conscious mind has moved on, the body holds difficult experiences in patterns of tension, bracing and activation that live below the level of thought. These somatic patterns keep the nervous system primed and vigilant long after the original threat has passed. No amount of understanding, reframing or talking about them will release what is held physically in tissue and nervous system.

Most conventional nervous system therapy approaches work from one direction. CBT and other talking therapies work primarily from the top down - using language, insight and cognitive processing to shift patterns held in the mind. Somatic therapy is better because it's an integrated approach, that weaves together top-down cognitive awareness and bottom-up body-based exploration. Gently turning attention toward felt sensations, emotions and held patterns that the conscious mind has long forgotten. It's often more effective than talking therapy alone precisely because it works with the whole person rather than just the thinking mind.

But for people with highly dysregulated nervous systems, somatic therapy faces a significant challenge before the real work can even begin. These are people who have spent decades living almost exclusively in their heads, and for understandable reasons: the body feels like the last place they want to be. It carries too much fear, too much pain, and too much unprocessed emotion. Turning attention inwards to the body, can feel like walking towards the very thing they've been running from for so long. Neuro-Somatic Therapy addresses this issue directly.

What is Neuro-Somatic Therapy?

Neuro-Somatic Therapy is a pioneering integrated nervous system therapy developed by Lee Bladon that combines two distinct but deeply complementary modalities within the same session:

  • Somatic Psychological Therapy is already an integrated approach - combining top-down cognitive awareness with bottom-up body-based exploration. Through somatic tracking, it gently turns attention toward the sensations, contractions and held patterns that carry what the conscious mind has long forgotten. Given space and safety, these energetic, emotional and cognitive patterns can shift and release in ways that talking alone rarely achieves.
  • NESA XSIGNAL Therapy works from the inside out - delivering imperceptible microcurrents that calm and balance nervous system, allowing it to move out of fight-or-flight mode and in to rest-and-recovery mode, which is essential for psychological and emotional healing to occur.

In the context of Neuro-Somatic Therapy, NESA's primary contribution is creating the conditions that somatic therapy needs to work most effectively: a calmer, safer nervous system with less fear, less tension and less resistance. When the nervous system feels safe, the body relaxes its guard. Somatic tracking goes deeper. Emotional processing meets less resistance. And material that might take many months or years to access in conventional therapy becomes accessible far sooner.

NESA doesn't replace the somatic psychological work - it supports and enhances it - that's why I created Neuro-Somatic Therapy.

Why This Unique Combination Works So Well

Shortening the Preparatory Phase

In somatic therapy, building the capacity to sense into the body takes time for many clients. For clients with highly dysregulated nervous systems, it can take weeks or months to gradually expand their window of tolerance, one small step at a time, before the deeper somatic work can begin.

NESA therapy fundamentally changes this dynamic. By calming the nervous system at the neurological level, it creates a state of genuine safety in the body. Not a state that has been cognitively constructed or carefully talked into, but one that the nervous system has been physically shifted into. The body's guard drops. The fear that made sensing inwards feel so threatening begins to soften. And what would otherwise require months of careful preparation becomes accessible much sooner.

For many clients, this alone is transformative. They arrive at the somatic work with a nervous system that is already more regulated, open and willing - and the therapeutic process unfolds at a depth and pace that wouldn't otherwise be possible.

Somatic Tracking - Sensing Without Fear

Somatic tracking is the practice of gently bringing awareness to physical and somatic sensations - noticing what's present without immediately trying to change, fix or understand it. A tightness in the chest. A heaviness in the belly. A subtle sense of bracing or holding. These sensations aren't random - they are the body's language, and they carry information about unresolved experiences, suppressed emotions and deeply held patterns that the thinking mind cannot access.

For people who've spent years avoiding their body, this kind of awareness can initially feel almost impossible. The moment awareness turns inwards, the nervous system flinches contracts or pulls away. With NESA actively regulating the nervous system, somatic tracking becomes significantly more accessible. The physiological settling that NESA produces means the body's messages can be approached with curiosity rather than dread. The client can begin to feel into territory that previously felt off-limits. And what has been held tightly for years begins, gradually, to be felt, known and released.

Emotional Processing - Completing What Was Interrupted

Many of the patterns that keep the nervous system dysregulated are rooted in emotional experiences that were never fully processed - overwhelming feelings that arose in difficult moments but couldn't be fully felt or expressed at the time, and so were pushed down and stored in the body. These incomplete emotional patterns continue to drive the nervous system's alarm response from below the surface, long after the original events have passed.

Emotional processing creates the conditions in which these cycles can finally complete. So, feelings that have been buried for decades can move up into conscious awareness to be felt, processed and released, rather than continuing to cry out for help (by manifesting symptoms). But this kind of processing requires a degree of nervous system regulation that many clients simply don't have access to at the start of therapy because the fear of feeling is too great.

With NESA maintaining a state of parasympathetic regulation throughout the session, emotional processing becomes both safer and more accessible. The client can move towards what they have been avoiding without triggering a full stress response. Resistance softens. What has been frozen begins to thaw. And the nervous system learns - experientially, not just intellectually - that it is possible to feel difficult things while remaining safe.

Enhancing Neuroplasticity

Lasting change depends on the nervous system's ability to form new neural pathways. But chronic stress, poor sleep and a dysregulated nervous system all impair the brain's ability to rewire itself, just when we most need it. By regulating the nervous system, improving sleep quality, reducing stress, and restoring the physiological conditions that support healthy brain function, NESA therapy actively enhances the neuroplastic potential of every somatic session. The insights, shifts and new patterns that emerge through somatic tracking and emotional processing are more likely to become genuinely encoded as lasting change — because the nervous system is in a state that supports integration rather than resisting it.

A Unique Offering

Most nervous system therapy practitioners don't have access to a technology that can regulate the nervous system at the neurological level during their clients' sessions. Neuro-Somatic Therapy is unique precisely because it does.

My Approach to Nervous System Therapy

My somatic psychological work draws on the InCorr Method, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hakomi, Psychosynthesis, HeartMath, any much more. Each approach is body-centred, trauma-informed and oriented toward root causes rather than symptom management.

At the heart of everything is somatic tracking - a gentle, curious attention to what is present in the body moment by moment - and emotional processing which allows the completion of processes that have been interrupted, held and carried. Combined with NESA therapy, this creates a therapeutic environment in which the nervous system is supported at the neurological, somatic, emotional and psychological levels.

Who is Neuro-Somatic Therapy For?

Neuro-Somatic Therapy is for people who are tired of managing their symptoms and ready to go deeper, to discover and heal the underlying root causes rather than just finding better ways to cope. It's particularly well suited to people who have tried other approaches, whether therapy, medication or wellness practices, and found that while they may have helped a bit, something persistent remains.

This integrated nervous system therapy is particularly well suited to people who:

  • Have tried talking therapy, medication or physical treatments without finding lasting relief.
  • Feel their difficulties have both a physiological and a psychological dimension that haven't been addressed together.
  • Are dealing with trauma, whether recent or long-standing, that hasn't fully resolved.
  • Understand their patterns intellectually but struggle to change them experientially.
  • Feel physiologically stuck, wired, exhausted or in pain, in ways that make psychological work feel difficult or inaccessible.
  • Are ready to go beyond symptom management and work at the root level.
  • Have not had much success with contentional talking therapy because their nervous system is so dysregulated.

Neuro-Somatic Therapy isn't a quick fix, and it's not a therapy where you hand yourself over to be fixed. The therapist's role is to support, guide and empower you, helping you to identify and heal the wounded, struggling and disconnected parts of yourself, and to rediscover the embodied awareness, authentic essence and wholeness that's already there. Every "body" is its own expert: Your body knows exactly what happened to you, and it innately knows how to heal.

Your Treatment Plan

Neuro-Somatic Therapy sessions follow the same 60-minute format as standard NESA sessions. The NESA equipment runs continuously throughout, while the somatic psychological work takes place alongside it. As with regular NESA therapy, a starter course of 10 sessions is the recommended starting point, with progress reassessed after each course. Generally speaking, as with any deeply therapeutic approach, ongoing sessions are generally required for several months.

Some clients come specifically for Neuro-Somatic Therapy, while others begin with NESA therapy and move into the deeper psychological work later. There's no fixed pathway - what matters is what's most helpful for you.

Investment In Your Wellbeing

Individual NESA sessions and Neuro-Somatic Therapy are priced at £120, with discounts available when you book a package.

Because NESA therapy requires 10 to 20 treatments to allow the nervous system time to gradually rebalance and form new, healthier patterns, packages are the standard way to begin - and they are much better value than booking sessions individually.

Individual sessions aren't available to new clients. This isn't an arbitrary restriction - it reflects the cumulative nature of nervous system rebalancing, where a minimum course of treatment is needed to produce real, lasting change.

  • Starter Package - £1,000 (saving £200) - Ten 60-minute sessions, scheduled two or three times a week over four to six weeks. Your personal set of electrode gloves and socks (worth £60) is included free of charge for your personal use throughout your treatment plan.
  • Follow-On Package - £500 (saving £100) - Five 60-minute sessions for clients who have completed the starter package and wish to continue with periodic sessions to maintain and build on their results.
  • Top-Up Sessions - £120 - One 60-minute session, available only to clients who have already completed the starter package.

Neuro-Somatic Therapy sessions are priced identically to standard NESA therapy sessions - the psychological therapy element is included within the same session at no additional cost.
